פלטפורמות טכנולוגיות רבות מסוגלות לתרום לקידום ולשיפור ההוראה והלמידה במגוון תחומי דעת אקדמיים (Green & Gilbert, 1995; Kozma & Johnston, 1991). בעשור האחרון אף קיימת באקדמיה מגמה הולכת וגוברת של שילוב פלטפורמות טכנולוגיות במחקר ובהוראה (Sim & Hew, 2010), שכן שניהם שלובים זה בזה ומפרים זה את זה (Badley, 2002; Healey, 2005; Lee, 2004).
מאמר זה מציע להתייחס לפלטפורמות טכנולוגיות, ובייחוד לפלטפורמת הבלוג, כגשר בין המחקר לבין ההוראה באקדמיה, התורם בו- זמנית לקידום איכותם. להלן אציג סקירה עדכנית ויישומית של מחקרים העוסקים באופני השימוש בבלוג במחקר ובהוראה באקדמיה.
