הספר של ד"ר מירה פוירשטיין עוסק ברעיונות ובמושגי מפתח בתחום החינוך לאוריינות מדיה ביקורתית (Critical Media Literacy ) שמטרתו: לטפח ולקדם את החשיבה הביקורתית של ילדים ונוער ביחס לתכני המדיה ומסריהם. התחום מעוגן בפרדיגמה הביקורתית ובחינוך לדמוקרטיה המצדדים בטיפוח אנשים חושבים, המסוגלים לנתח ולהעריך מידע באופן בקורתי, כדי לקבל החלטות שקולות ותבוניות החיוניות להבטחת איכות חייהם כאזרחי הדמוקרטיה. בראייה זו, התחום מציב ללומדים אתגרי חשיבה רלבנטיים בעידן של תקשורת רב ערוצית, גלובליזציה ושינויים טכנולוגיים. ידע וכישורים לניווט חכם בסביבות מידע וירטואליות, והתמודדות מושכלת עם הערכים והנורמות המטופחים בעולם ה"רייטינג" של המדיה. הספר הוא תוצר של עבודת דוקטורט שבחנה את החשיבה הביקורתית של תלמידים בביה"ס היסודי מול תכני טלוויזיה ופרסומות מהעיתונות, בעקבות התנסות שיטתית בתכנית לאוריינות מדיה ביקורתית
תקציר באנגלית:
Thinking critically is one of the central issues in the agenda setting of the education in the last decades, as results of the fast developments in media technologies which has expanded our access to information, but do not necessarily lead to depth understanding and increased knowledge. More than ever, pupils must be able to demonstrate creativity in coping with the virtual environments of the new media. Critical thinking (CT) about the media –Critical media literacy - empowers students , enabling them to navigate their lives in the so-called “ digital information society” .It also reflects the ideas of education for democratic values: the freedom to think critically and to make reasonable civic decisions in their life. What is CT towards the media? How do we prepare students to be critical media thinkers in a contemporary media society?
These controversially questions have motivated and inspired this innovative and important book which is based on original study, including interviews, media tests and focus groups with primary school pupils (aged 10-12) in Israel. It was conducted as part of a doctoral dissertation submitted to the University of Liverpool. The book provides a meaningful knowledge about the interrelationships between media literacy and CT, and how to engage pupils in critical inquiry of knowledge from their open learning contexts: for teachers, parents and educators .
