נוכח החשיבות של יצירת איכות גבוהה בהתנסויות מעשיות של פרחי הוראה פותחה בארה"ב תכנית סימולציה ממוחשבת באינטרנט שנועדה לאמן סטודנטים להוראה במיומנויות הנחוצות להוראה אפקטיבית בכיתה . תכנית ההדרכה הסימולטיבית הממוחשבת ידועה בשם Cook School District והיא מייצגת בתוכה מאפיינים שונים של עבודת המורה בשטח teacher work samples (TWS) ותסריטים פדגוגיים הנגזרים מכך. המחקר הנוכחי ערך השוואה בין היכולות של הסטודנטים להוראה לנתח מצבי למידה באמצעות המערכת הממוחשבת ובין מצבי למידה אוטנטיים בשטח ההוראה. ממצאי המחקר מלמדים כי הסימלוציה הממוחשבת יעילה מבחינת פרחי הוראה והיא מביאה למודעות הרבה יותר גדולה אצלם למצבי למידה אופייניים איתם מתמודדים המורים הותיקים והמנוסים בכיתה . מודעות זו יש בה כדי לשפר את יכולותיהם של פרחי ההוראה להתמודד עם אירועי למידה מורכבים בכיתה (Girod, M. & Girod, G ).

Cook School Simulation
A computer based simulation, developed earlier by Jerry Girod and colleagues, has been used to provide candidates with a means to practice the skills of connecting teaching and learning using the model of Teacher Work Sample Methodology. The simulation is driven by data from 180 real student profiles including ranges of performance for achievement and engagement as a factor of grade level, content area, instructional strategy, kind and complexity of learning targets, assessment type and sequence, as well as modifications or individualizations for each. These performance ranges are positioned in an algorithm that calculates individual student achievement and engagement patterns. Teacher candidates use the simulation to learn data driven decision-making, improve real work samples and, ultimately, to improve their own teaching and student learning. Initial efficacy studies demonstrate a clear and compelling value for the simulation.
Content Based Teacher Work Sample Methodology
Recognizing the increasing need to document candidates’ attainment of content needed to teach in the classroom, WOU is experimenting with more content specific rubrics. These content customized rubrics, selected on the basis of the content focus of the TWSM, allow the student, mentor teacher, WOU supervisor/instructor to assess a candidates’ Teacher Work Sample using a lens that incorporates what research and best practices tell us is essential in the teaching of a content area. We also are re-examining the ways in which the effectiveness of the lessons within the TWSM help students specifically meet the identified state standards. Initial areas of development are emerging in Science and Literacy.
